Hi All!
Happy New Year all! A quick update from Cobb Mountain Art and Ecology Project in Middletown California. I moved here late summer from the Appalachian Center for Craft in Tennessee. I think its safe to say that it is more rural here in the California mountains than the hills of middle Tennessee. I have been hard at work in the studio on some new ideas and re-exploring others. While its rainy outside, in true northwest winter fashion, the studio has been full of native clay tests, porcelainous clay, a touch of glazing and lots of pinch pots. When the weather is clear, I am collecting wood (for the house, studio and kilns) thinning brush, firing kilns, building kilns, and even getting first hand experience building a pond among other Cobb projects.
The fall was full of exciting adventures, including the move here. I attended bothWaubonsee's Woodfire Conference in Illinois as well as Arrowmont's Utilitarian Clay Symposium. It was great to catch up with old friends and make new ones over great conversations of pots, kilns and life adventures. We even managed a visit to the Salt and Shaker Museum in Gatlinburg the morning after the symposium before we all parted ways. In November, we had a fall studio sale here at Cobb Mountain Art and Ecology Projects, including the 6 artists in residence and Scott Parady as well as his son Elliot Parady.
In other news, the Archie Bray Foundation's Beyond the Brick Yard show opens later this month, lots of great work is represented in the exhibition. I am excited to be included among them.
Watch for porcelanious work from a high fire kiln later at the end of this month, cone 8 high iron work next month and earthenware sometime inbetween. Also new in the studio will be some molds for new wall installations. Lots of new ideas swirling in my head, and never enough time!
I am happy to be back in west and the mountains. We will see what the future brings. Please stay tuned for new work! More to come on the new residency and fellow residents.
